“HOLETS” by Berini
“Holets”, del artista Berini (@gberinif), es una colección de obras inspiradas en la figura del holet, un duende procedente del folclore de la Vall d’Aran, su tierra natal. A través de estos cuadros, el artista reinterpreta este ser mítico desde una perspectiva contemporánea e urbana.
Ha apostado por un estilo nuevo pero auténtico; mezclando lo rural o tradicional con una estética contemporánea trashy, y inspirándose un poco en el arte del graffiti o del tattoo. Él mismo la denomina como "pochismo" (o "potxisme" en català) y es una forma moderna de reivindicación del "simplemente ser" artístico: defiende la imperfección técnica y formal del arte con tal de expresar de manera más simple. Las cosas no tienen porque ser serias para tener peso; la juventud usa la ironía, el humor y la poca seriedad para hacer críticas sociales y expresar ese absurdismo que nos envuelve a muchos.
Personalmente siento que describe bastante bien la eséncia de un joven artista: es una colección jugetona y agresiva, con trazos simples -limpios y muy brutos a la vez.
Al final ¿no somos todos una mezcla del pasado y del futuro? ¿De nuestras raíces y a la vez de nuestras inquietudes? ¿De donde venimos y donde queremos ir?
Hablando con él sobre el porqué y como; me explicó que la idea le vino después de leer un libro - le llamó la idea de crear un personaje que a través de distintos cuadros se fuera conservando. Un personaje que siguiera vivo en distintos lienzos, siguiendo su propia línea temporal; que fuera la cara de su imaginario.
Siguió con esa idea en mente, hasta que, mientras tenía la típica conversación de como ha ido el día en el trabajo con una vecina; acabaron hablando sobre antiguas leyendas locales relacionadas con el bosque. La figura del "holet" le llamó tanto, que la inspiración brotó sola.
Sin forzar nada se puso a manos a la obra -y a la que se dió cuenta habia hecho toda una secuencia de “holets” en acción- naciendo así los primeros bocetos de la colección de Berini.

“Holets,” by the artist Berini (@gberinif), is a collection of works inspired by the figure of the holet, a goblin from the folklore of the Vall d’Aran, his homeland. Through these paintings, the artist reinterprets this mythical being from a contemporary, urban perspective. He has chosen a style that is new yet authentic, blending the rural and traditional with a contemporary, trashy aesthetic, and drawing some inspiration from graffiti and tattoo art. He himself calls this style “pochismo” (or “potxisme” in Catalan): a modern way of asserting the artistic value of “simply being.” It embraces technical and formal imperfection in favor of more straightforward expression. Things don’t need to be serious to carry weight; young people use irony, humor, and lightheartedness to make social critiques and express the absurdism that surrounds so many of us.
Personally, I find it a playful and aggressive collection: simple strokes—clean yet raw at the same time. It captures quite well what goes on in the minds of young artists today. In the end, aren’t we all a blend of past and future? Of our roots and our restlessness? Of where we come from and where we want to go?
When speaking with him about the why and the how, he explained that the idea came after reading a book—he was struck by the notion of creating a character that could remain consistent throughout different paintings. A character that would stay alive across canvases, following its own timeline; a face for his inner world.
He kept that idea in mind until, during the typical “how was your day at work?” chat with a neighbor, they ended up talking about old local forest legends. The figure of the holet struck him as the perfect character, and inspiration flowed naturally. Without forcing anything, he got to work—and before he realized it, he had created a whole sequence of holets in action. That’s how the first sketches of Berini’s collection were born.
